Review/Steam World Detection: Gigamech’s Hand (PC)

I don’t like steampunk. Before I continue, I will give you time to recover from the shock. Yes, this style doesn’t suit me. But that doesn’t mean I hate it. It just means I won’t play steampunk games in particular. Of course, even if this is not strictly a steampunk, it also includes the Steam World series. But I like fantasy adventure and exchange games, so I want to try “Steam World Adventure: The Hand of Mickey on the Road”. Obviously, the fantasy RPG of robot characters is a strange premise. But I think if it recognizes this and provides something new, there is no reason not to work.

I keep the symbolic style of SteamWorld series, so it goes without saying the visual effect. This(fortunately) means that the game uses 2D visuals, but not pixel art. Because of the use of hand drawn patterns, I am always happy to see them in endless pixelated independent games. All robots do not look appropriate in other typical medieval landscapes, but this may be their intention. In short, it will only distract people and make the experience more unique. Gamable characters ensure that they stay in touch with you with an appropriate and recognizable design.

The plot is centered on the three main heroes. Along the way, there are other heroes, such as the knight named Amily, the alchemist named Copernicus, and the mechanic named Calvary. These characters fit familiar metaphors, but that doesn’t mean they can’t entertain. Emily is my personal favorite; she is a person eager for adventure. There is too much energy and she wants to delete a series of fantasy adventure metaphors. Whether good or bad, her enthusiasm has promoted the development of the plot. Unfortunately, the other main characters are not that interesting. Copernicus is your typical over serious mage. For Emily, she is a very good(although not original) best man, but this often makes her feel that this is her only purpose. Galleo is a cowardly mechanic and a therapist of the Party. He is a gentle giant, but he joined the party for no reason at the beginning of the game. Although other heroes later joined your team, these three heroes will be with you in your “Steam World Exploration”.

A Party member represents a group in the world, and the screen of each group is like a square on a grid. The battle is made up of rounds, but the enemy can see it in outer space, just like in the “Cadmario” or “Fisona” games. But combat systems themselves are not common. Use the card. This may not be a completely unique idea, but Stemworld Quest will undoubtedly benefit from implementation. The characters and the world are interesting, but not deep enough. The credit card system will not go completely crazy, but will add the extra depth required for the game. Each character has a small card group. Each round can use relatively few cards, but you can customize each round by selecting a group of cards from all members. If you need to go all out to attack, you can use Emily’s three cards and get the corresponding small bonus. If you want to hit and cure the enemy’s basic weakness, you can use the mixed card of Copernicus and Galileo.

I have something to say about the lightweight RPG. Most types of games are defined by continuous stories, so it’s better to jump into RPG without knowing the whole history of the fictional world. But personally, “Exploring the Steam World” doesn’t excite me. There may be no happy medium, but at the same time, I still think “Explore the Steam World” is an interesting little game. It is easy to jump in, and its mechanical properties are very good.
